Update: Ted

Watched the movie Ted today with Julia. It was pretty good, but I think I heard a lot of good reviews about it from my parents and friends, so I was pretty intrigued and my expectations were quite high.

It was alright, pretty funny. (:

Not much to say, HAHAHAHA. I've realised my posts are getting shorter because I'm not rambling so much more than I used to. ):

Anyhoo, thanks for reading,

Update: ANZAC Day and the Avengers

First and foremost, I want to say thank you to all the soldiers that fought bravely in the wars, past and present. They have so much courage and bravery, that it is so important we remember and honour them on this special day. Lest we forget. ♥

Image taken from IMBd site.
Today, went out to the movies to watch 'The Avengers' which came out today. Was so excited for this! ♥ Went to the 12P.M session, and it did not disappoint, to say the least.

Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. brings together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki and his army. "

This movie was so good! ♥ Definitely one of my types of movies. ♥ ♥ Rate it 19/20. ;D

Anyhoo, went shopping and got some Typo pens.

Also got my formal dress from this cute shop 'Ally' but going to return it because, found a better one online. However, they have sold out, so I shall see. (:

Tomorrow, have badminton training in the morning and also have to present a group aerobics routine. Really need to finish off my maths homework right now. I also have a badminton competition this Saturday which I'm completely pumped about. Love badminton. ♥

Movie Review: War Horse [ may contain spoilers ]

When I walked into the cinema to watch this, it was filled with 'old people'. Seriously...I was starting to think that I walked into the wrong cinema. BUT, it is about war, so I guess they would be interested.

The movie was really long, it lasted for about 2 and a half hours, which is pretty long. Well, very long.

Description:
"Spielberg directed war-drama, based on both the children's novel and its stage adaptation, about a British lad who sets out on a journey to rescue his horse from the battlefields of World War I. Albert's (newcomer Jeremy Irvine) pet horse and best friend, Joey, is sold to the calvary at the outbreak of the first World War. Heartbroken, Albert heads to France to find his friend, despite being too young to enlist in the British army. The film follows Joey's journey across Europe and through the war, as well as Albert's search. Also stars Tom Hiddleston (Thor), Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC's Sherlock) and Oscar-nominee Emily Watson (Breaking the Waves)."

Watch the trailer:

I think this movie would be a really educational movie in the future, considering how much depth it gives in the harsh reality of warfare. It shows true friendship which makes this movie emotionally breath-taking. They are torn apart by war, but the horse, Joey, ends the war.

But it was really emotional for me, obviously and the plot was quite sad. There were a lot of 'what if's and Joey had gone through so many near-death experiences, that it was lucky that he even got through them.

Rating: 10/10
Recommendation: Yes. (: It's really really good and worth your time to check out.

Movie Review: Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Went to watch the new Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol movie today, starring Tom Cruise. :D

I love Tom Cruise after seeing this. He's so good-looking, if I'm allowed to point that out. :D

Anyways, looks aside. To the movie. :D There was a lot of talking in it, like nearly all action movies do. But in the conversations, there were heaps of jokes, which made it really entertaining. Though, I don't think it was AWESOME, but I did enjoy it. The music sounded good. (: Brought back memories. (:

Here's the trailer:

My rating for this movie would be 16.5/20 since I didn't like it as much as I would've liked to. Once your really 'into' the movie and the action begins, it's really interesting and good. :D

Thumbs up, so go watch it. (:

Movie Review: Abduction

I actually missed the first 2-5 minutes of the movie since I was late for it but nothing much had happened anyways. The movie beginning was kind of tedious but when the action began it was good ! Well I personally like violence movies so this was good to watch. (: Sounds bad. Lol.

Anyways, they call this movie partially a thriller which to me, isn't as scary/disturbing as other thrillers ( Suckerpunch ). The way the actors reacted when someone died in front of them was really really realistic. I can imagine myself reacting that way so I thought they did an excellent job.

This movie starrs Taylor Lautner and co-star Lily Collins. They both did a great job. (: In my opinion. Though I do wish there was more action than talking. :P Still interesting though. :D

Description:
"For as long as he can remember, Nathan Harper (Taylor Lautner) has had the uneasy feeling that he’s living someone else’s life. When he stumbles upon an image of himself as a little boy on a missing persons website, all of Nathan’s darkest fears come true: he realizes his parents are not his own and his life is a lie, carefully fabricated to hide something more mysterious and dangerous than he could have ever imagined.

Just as he begins to piece together his true identity, Nathan is targeted by a team of trained killers, forcing him on the run with the only person he can trust, his neighbor, Karen (Lily Collins). Every second counts as Nathan and Karen race to evade an army of assassins and federal operatives. But as his opponents close in, Nathan realizes that the only way he’ll survive – and solve the mystery of his elusive biological father – is to stop running and take matters into his own hands."

Watch the trailer :

Rating: 8.5/10 - Not enough action for me ;)
Recommendation: If you REALLY don't have anything to watch or you just adore Taylor Lautner ;)

Movie Review: Johnny English Reborn

This was a really really funny and great movie to watch. A family favourite (: It was such a hilarious comedy with action. I've seen the first one of this and it's just as hilarious. (: It definitely has lived up to its standards and this one is slightly better since it has more awesome gidgets and gadgets added to it. (:

The movie trailer :

Rating: 9.8/10 - It's lost some of its marks since I didn't exactly go 'Wow'. But it's a movie that's worth watching :D
Recommendation: Watch it if you miss Mr. Bean action ;)

Book Review: Alone on a Wide Wide Sea by Michael Morpurgo

Julia ( http://www.littlemisscrayons.wordpress.com/ ) actually lent me this book since she called it one of her all-time favourites. I've finished reading it a long time ago actually, and I wanted to post a review on it.

The Blurb:
Orphaned in WWII, Arthur is separated from his
sister and sent to the other side of the world. There his
extraordinary journey continues as he and his friend Marty
survive brutal captivity on a working farm, find a new family
with the eccentric Aunty Meg and her animals, and
discover their talent for designing yachts.

Sixty years later, Arthur's daughter Allie sets sail
single-handed in a yacht designed by her father, determined
to find his long-lost sister in England. Can family love stretch
across time and the vastness of the oceans? And will the
threads of Arthur's life finally come together?

What I think about it:
This book is so tragic. My sister who read it said it was TOO tragic for her liking - fair enough. But I like tragedy compared to cliche. :P I think it was really good, till the story was moved into his daughter's point of view. That part, I skipped many pages. Lol. If you read it, you'll see what I mean. :P

Rating: 9.5/10 - Lost half a mark since there was a part I had to skip a lot of pages. :P

Recommendation: Yes. Especially if you want to know how much WWII really affected children and the harsh reality of how they are treated. ):

Love,
Michelle <3

Movie Review No. 6 - Cowboys and Aliens

The main character was Jake Lonergan who was played by Daniel Craig. Olivia Wilde played Ella who was actually a .... I shouldn't say. Oopsies. Lol. Turns out she played in Tron as well :O Never realised. But I did realise that Noah Ringer was in the movie; he played a guy named Emmett Targgart. Noah starred in 'Avatar the Last Airbender' except in this movie, he wasn't bald. :P Thought he did a good job. (:

The director was Jon Favreau who also starrs in Freddie Wong's video where Freddie went to the actual set for the movie :

The movie itself was really good. I really enjoyed it and as usual, as I watch anything, I cried ... A BIT though ! I even cry watching the news....sometimes...you didn't need to know that :O But too late. :P

Definitely a movie worth watching. The trailer doesn't really show much so you'll have to go watch it yourself to really understand what's it's about. (: Really action-packed and nerve-racking though. (:

Rating: 8.5/10
Recommendation: For those who like action-packed things and Daniel Craig. Mixed with Cowboyness/Westerness (:

Movie Review No. 5 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part. 2 !!!

Voldemort (YES I SAID IT :P) seriously needs a nose job. :L

I'VE FINALLY BEEN ABLE TO WATCH HARRY POTTER 7 !! AND I JUST CAME HOME :D

Lemme tell you, it was the best experience ever and I really really REALLY want to watch it again (: It was truly a worth-while movie.

We actually booked our tickets online last night since we were scared it was going to be sold out and thank god we did that because when we got there to receive our tickets, they really were sold out. I feel so glad we were able to watch it (:

Two things though :
1) I wish it was real.
2) I wish they would write/make another one. ANYTHING to return to that world. It was so FREAKING awesome !

Rating: 11/10 :D

Recommendation: WATCH IT. And that's an order. :P

Movie Review No. 4 - 'I am Number 4'

Hello,

I also have finally watched 'I am Number 4'. This was a seriously great movie. There were scenes in the movie that were kinda cringe-worthy. I really hope there's going to be a continued movie of this since the ending is kind of ambigious and it doesn't really end. Other than that, it was awesome (: I like supernatural movies so this was totally A-W-E-S-O-M-E. :D

Rating: 9.5/10

Movie Review No. 3 - 'Kung-Fu Panda 2' (Contains Spoilers)

Boo (:

So I've finally watched Kung-Fu Panda 2. Well I watched it last week so here's my review (:

One word : AWESOME :D

I swear this movie was really really good. I really want to watch it again. I watched this in 3-D but as with every movie that's 3D it's not really that different. I really liked the plot-line and I have no idea why, but anything that is emotional in a movie, I would cry to.

SPOILER ALERT: DON'T READ THE FOLLOWING IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS MOVIE YET :P

So there was a scene where it shows Po's mother leaving him in a crate full of radishes to save her own son from this ... uhh ... crane that wants to eliminate all the living pandas in the province. So it was really sad when the mother sacrificed herself for him. Now that part was so sad to me, I cried. YES ! I said it. There. I cried. Lol. Well, it was sad... *shrug*

Rating: 10/10

DEFINITELY A FAVOURITE (: I think there's going to be Kung-Fu Panda 3 :D I'M DEFINITELY GOING TO WATCH THAT !

Book Review No. 3 - 'House Rules' by Jodi Picoult

Yo (:

Her cover is slightly different :P
So many of you might've heard of Jodi Picoult and personally, I think she is one of the best authors in the WORLD. Yes, she's that great to me. So when Julia (http://www.xxjuliaxx.blogspot.com/) bought this book last year, I've been wanting to read it for some time. So I asked her if I could borrow it this holidays. I've finally finished it and I've got a review for it (:

The Blurb:
Jacob Hunt is a teenage boy with Asperger's Syndrome. He's hopeless at
reading social cues or expressing himself to others, and like many
children with Asperger's, Jacob has an obsessive focus on one subject - in
his case, forensic analysis. He's always showing up at crime scenes, thanks
to the police scanner he keeps in his room, and telling cops what
they need to do - he's usually right. But then one day his tutor is
found dead, and the police come to question him. Reluctance to make
eye contact, stimulatory tics and twitches, inappropriate gestures, all
these can look like guilt. Suddenly, Jacob finds himself
accused of murder.

House Rules at what it means to be different in our society,
and at extremes of love and loyalty a family must call upon
to overcome impossible circumstances.

What I think about it:
It's a REALLY REALLY good book. There are parts where the author holds the suspension really well and makes me think: 'WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT?! WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?' I love this book :D

Rating: 10/10
Recommendation: Highly recommended by me as long as you don't mind reading books about life (:

Movie Review No. 2 - 'Paradise Road'

Hey guys,

'Paradise Road' is about ( I don't have the back of the DVD cover since I watched this at school ) European women and children in WWII when the Japanese took them hostage and did many horrific things to them. I believe this is based on the experiences of the women and parts of the scenes are re-enactments of what really happened to the women at that time.

There isn't a visible plotline but the movie is there to give the audience a feeling of WWII and how the women had to survive it. Many women actually died in this movie if you don't mind me saying and a spoiler: You watch a Chinese woman be burned alive. That's gruesome.

Rating: 8.25/10

Recommendation: Yes, if you don't mind watching things with gruesome things in it. There really isn't much to say ...

Book Review No. 2 - 'Matched' by Ally Condie

Hey guys,

I've finally finished 'Matched' by Ally Condie that Julia (http://www.xxjuliaxx.blogspot.com/) has let me borrow. She's actually in China now so she won't be posting for about 2 weeks but she recording her posts in Microsoft Word. See her review on this book by clicking this link : http://xxjuliaxx.blogspot.com/2011/06/book-review-no1-matched-by-ally-condie.html

Anyways, to the review.

The Blurb:
ON HER SEVENTEENTH BIRTHDAY,
CASSIA MEETS HER MATCH. SOCIETY DICTATES
HE IS HER PERFECT PARTNER FOR LIFE.
EXCEPT HE'S NOT.

In Cassia's society. Officials decide who people love.
How many children they have.
Where they work.
When they die.

But, as Cassia finds herself falling in love with another boy,
she is determined to make some choices of her own.

And that's when her whole world
begins to unravel...

What I think about it:
As you can tell just by reading the blurb, this book was going to be a love triange like 'Twilight'. The plot itself was really exciting but I found myself not LOVING the book. Instead it wasn't SO interesting that I couldn't stop reading it till about 3/4 through the book. Not a bad book, but not the best either.

Rating: 8.5/10

Recommendation: Yes, if you want to read something that has romance themes. There are some parts that aren't interesting though.

Michelle xx

Movie Review No. 1 - Romeo and Julet

Hey guys,

So at school sometime, we finished watching 'Romeo and Juliet'. We watched the Baz Lurhmann's version which I prefer anyways. I like how it's really cliche and dramatized. I know some people don't like movies like that but I personally don't mind it.

The love theme/song from the movie is really good and is so sad. The song is 'I'm Kissing You' by Des'Ree. It's really good since it reminds me of the movie and the ending.
Listen to the song:

I found the ending really sad and found it hard not to cry to. I'm pretty sure all those Leonardo fans out there would totally dig this movie. *wink* I can't wink but whatever. :P

Rating: 5/5
Recommendation: YES. If you don't mind crying to tragedy love stories. Or if you love Leonardo Di'Caprico. Lol.

Don't watch it if you've just broken up with someone because you'll bawl out waterfalls. :P
